utspoken Golkar Party politician Bambang Soesatyo said that his party would be open to a proposal of pairing Aburizal Bakrie as presidential candidate with Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as his running mate for the 2014 presidential election.
Bambang said the pairing would in fact be advantageous for the Democratic Party, which, it is predicted, will experience a slump in the 2014 legislative election.
'If the ARB-SBY ticket were to materialize, I predict the Democratic Party would benefit,' Bambang said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Bambang also said that, according to the Constitution, Yudhoyono would not be disqualified from running as a vice-presidential candidate.
On Tuesday, former Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum, a suspect in the Hambalang graft case, suggested that Yudhoyono should run as a vice-presidential candidate to salvage his party's electability rating.
Anas said that Yudhoyono needed to be ready to make the sacrifice in the same way he had allowed himself to be elected Democratic Party chairman during an extraordinary congress in Bali earlier this year.
