The country had seen less communal conflicts this year, Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi said on Friday.
The minister said there were 85 incidences of such conflicts in 2013, compared to 128 in 2012.
Gamawan attributed the decline to Presidential Decree No.2/2013 on social conflict management, as well as the ministry's success in informing regional officials on how to prevent potential conflict.
'This includes how to manage budgets,' he said.
Despite the improvement, the ministry was still working on detecting areas prone to communal conflicts, according to Gamawan.
'For example, land disputes and regional election problems,' he said.
Gamawan also asked all National and Political Unity Offices (Kesbangpol) to actively prevent conflict.
'Especially as we approach the 2014 election, it is hoped Kesbangpol will be able to minimize conflicts in the regions by intensifying coordination with related officials,' he said.
