An Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) official says his party can still perform its leadership role in Banten following the Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) decision to name Ratu Atut Chosiyah a suspect in a bribery case relating to the Lebak regent election dispute.
'We're definitely ready to maintain our leadership of Banten as stipulated by Regional Government Law no. 32/2004,' PDI-P deputy secretary-general Eriko Sotarduga said on Tuesday as quoted by tempo.co.
He said the PDI-P was preparing Banten Deputy Governor Rano Karno for the task so he could continue to lead once Atut had been detained by the KPK.
There was no comment available from former celebrity Rano.
The KPK has named Atut as suspect in a graft case centering on the Lebak regent election dispute.
The same case has also seen Atut's sibling Tubagus Chaeri Wardana named a suspect. (dic)
