fter one year of holding office, Governor Joko 'Jokowi'Widodo has yet to introduce any major changes in the city, yet he comes acrossas more humane than his predecessor Fauzi Bowo, according to an expert.
Yayat Supriatna, a public policy analyst at Trisakti University, said on Friday that Jokowi use structural and cultural approaches to lead Jakarta.
'Jokowi uses a cultural approach to deal with residents. I did research in both Solo [Surakarta] and Jakarta. What is new in Jakarta? A more humane approach,' he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Jokowi was mayor of Surakarta from 2005 to 2012.
Yayat explained that with the cultural approach, Jokowi carried out development programs to empower marginalized people, which is reflected in the free healthcare program (KJS) and free education program (KJP).
Jokowi has also showed strong commitment to good governance and creating a clean bureaucracy with optimum public services.
Previously being a successful entrepreneur also helped Jokowi empower city-owned companies to carry out development programs, including the regreening programs at Pluit reservoir in North Jakarta and Ria-Rio reservoir in East Jakarta, Yayat said.
