Malaysian weekly newspaper suspended

Malaysian weekly newspaper The Heat has been suspended indefinitely by the Malaysia'€™s home ministry.

Its suspension is believed to be over a front-page article on Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor'€™s expenditure.

The suspension was confirmed by its sister publication, news portal The Ant Daily on its website, announcing that The Heat had ceased publication in compliance with the ministry'€™s suspension order.

The portal said that with the suspension, the news weekly would not be published on Dec. 21 as scheduled. '€œWe will keep our readers, subscribers and advertisers updated on further developments through this website, and other channels.

'€œSubscribers will be compensated accordingly, through an automatic extension of their subscription period,'€ it said.

The weekly, which focuses on politics, economics and social issues, was reported to have been issued a show-cause letter last week
