Lt. Col. Ramot CP Sinaga, argued that Mismiani had violated a moratorium between the Air Force and local residents over the land conflict. The moratorium, Sinaga said, strictly forbade the construction of new houses until the two parties were in agreement.
'We tried to warn her but she didn't listen. Even the neighborhood unit head knew nothing about the construction,' he said.
Commenting on this, Mismiani insisted that she had the documents, ready to be confirmed and verified by the Air Force.
'We have been living on this land for long time and we possess all the necessary documents to prove we are rightful owners,' she argued, in response Sinaga ordered his subordinates to cease the demolition.
The conflict between the Air Force and local residents has been ongoing for months. The Air Force claimed it was the rightful owner of the 220 hectares of land where the residents reside.
The Air Force had based their argument on a 1950 Military Commander Decision on land that was returned to the government, which, therefore, was deemed state inventory.(dic)
