wo unidentified men broke into Sinar Baru, a jewelry store, owned by a local named Risman, on Jl. Sukajadi in Dumai, Riau, and stole jewelry worth Rp 300 million (US$24,900) on Thursday.

Risman'€™s brother, Uul Syafrianto, 21, who is also the store'€™s attendant, said he was opening the three-story shop when two men pulled up on a motorbike wearing full-face helmets.

Having forced their way inside, one of the assailants suddenly pointed a gun at Uul. '€œHe told me to put the jewelry at a black plastic bag but I refused. The man then fired two shots into the desk in front of me,'€ said Uul, who managed to escape uninjured and went upstairs to inform his family about the incident.

The robbers used the time to steal the jewelry. '€œThey mostly stole gold necklaces that were placed in three lockers. In total, they weighed more than 500 grams,'€ Uul added.

Separately, Dumai Police criminal investigations division head Adj. Comr. Wisnu Wibowo said the perpetrators may still be in town.

'€œWe have called on officers at all police precincts to tighten security at border areas to apprehend the suspects,'€ Wisnu said, adding that the shop contained no CCTV cameras.

The police, he went on, were examining two projectiles found in the shop and broken glass in the search for fingerprints.
