anten Deputy Governor Rano Karnohas joined the line of officials who have rejected the plan to build a deeptunnel to connect two great rivers, the Ciliwung and Cisadane, as an effort totackle the massive flooding that is currently inundating Jakarta and itssurrounding areas.
'This administration won't support any plan that brings us no benefit,' Rano, an Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician, said on the sidelines of a visit to the Pintu Air 10 dam in Tangerang on Wednesday.
He said the plan required thorough evaluation. He added that the government needed to normalize the two rivers before constructing the tunnel.
'Therefore, we need to sit together on this, to seek a win-win solution,' he said.
Three Tangerang officials, namely South Tangerang Deputy Mayor Benjamin Davnie, Tangerang Regent Ahmed Zaki and Tangerang Mayor Arief Wismansyah, earlier rejected the Ciliwung-Cisadane tunnel construction plan, saying that the plan would affect their regions as well. (dic)
