he panel of judges at the MedanCorruption Court judges handed down suspended Mandailing Natal regent MuhammadHidayat Batubara a sentence of five- and-a -half years in prison and obliged himto pay Rp 300 million in fines as he was proven to have been involved in thePenyabungan Hospital construction graft case.

'€œIt has been proven that the defendant played significant roles in the graft case, by ordering his subordinates to find a contractor that would provide kickbacks worth 7 percent of the construction budget,'€ Presiding judge Agus Salim told the court on Wednesday.

The ruling, however, was lighter than the prosecutors'€™ request of eight years in prison.

Beforehand, the same court also sentenced two people, Mandailing Natal regency official Khairul Anwar Daulay and contractor Surung Panjaitan to four-and-a-half, and two years and five months, respectively over the same allegations.(dic)
