'We decide to give humanitarian relief to West Jakarta because the municipality was the worst-hit and the lions' share of flood victims are found in the municipality,' head of the Jakarta chapter of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Nuraina said after handing over the humanitarian relief to secretary of the West Jakarta municipal administration Syamsudin Lologao.
Nuraina said the BPJS's donation was small but hopefully signaled her institution's solidarity with Jakartans affected by the flood.
Syamsudin said that flooding caused by heavy rains over the past two weeks had killed one resident and displaced more than 26,000 in five of the municipalities eight districts ' Cengkareng, Kembangan, Kalideres, Petamburan and Kebun Jeruk.
BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is a public company under presidential jurisdiction that was born from former state-owned insurance company PT Jamsostek. It has been charged with carrying out the state's occupational accident, old-age risk, pension and death benefits programs.
