Supadmo, who planned to fly to Mecca, said the cancellation of his flight was disappointing but understandable. He said he would stay at a hotel and wait for flights to resume.
Andrias Yustinian from PT Angkasa Pura I said the airport would be closed at least for 24 hours. He said 2 centimeters of ash had blanketed everything.
Military air bases, such as Abdulrahman Saleh and Iswahyudi, respectively located in Malang and Madiun, have also been affected. Maj. Nurhariri of the Abdulrahman Saleh air base said training flights at the Iswahyudi military air base in Madiun had been canceled due to the ash.(idb/dic)
