he National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has arrested fourIndonesians for allegedly trying to smuggle 5 kilograms of crystalmethamphetamine, locally known as shabu-shabu, from Malaysia.
Deputy of BNN's drug eradication division, Brig. Gen. Deddy Fauzi Elhakim, said on Monday that the syndicate had used a high-speed fishing boat to transport the drugs worth Rp 6 billion (US$516,000) from Penang, Malaysia, to Aceh, Indonesia.
The agency's detectives arrested the suspects ' identified as BA, NA, MS and SB ' in separate locations in Aceh on Feb. 9. Aside the drugs, the police also seized a homemade revolver and an airsoft gun from them.
An investigation by BNN found that the drugs were produced in Guandong, China. During a major drug raid in January, the Chinese Police seized three tons of crystal methamphetamine and arrested 182 people in the same spot.
'Before the raid, some drug syndicates had brought the drugs overseas, including to Indonesia. Considering its distinct quality, the drugs can be sold for Rp 1.2 million per gram, or three times the value of other shabu-shabu,' Deddy said at BNN headquarters in Jakarta.
