disucipto International Airport in Yogyakarta was scheduled to reopen on Wednesday after being closed due to the eruption of Mt. Kelud in East Java. The airport had originally planned to open the previous day.
"After cleaning up the volcanic ash, we plan on Wednesday at 12 p.m to reopen the airport," said head of Airport Authority Region III Muhammad Alwi on Tuesday, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
During the closure three planes belonging to Garuda Indonesia, Wings Air and Citilink were stranded at the airport.
Previously, Transportation Minister EE Mangindaan said that Adisucipto and Adi Soemarmo airports in Surakarta, Central Java, were scheduled to reopen on Tuesday. The delay in reopening was due to a longer than expected clean-up process. (krb)
