Damaged Navy facility will be rebuilt, says lawmaker

lawmaker from the House of Representatives security commission said hiscommission would fully support efforts to build a new, bigger facility to replacethe damaged Navy facility in Pondok Duyung, North Jakarta.

'€œA bigger facility will be erected; therefore we will need to expand the premises through land reclamation,'€ lawmaker Maj. Gen. (ret.) Tubagus Hasanuddin said as quoted by Kompas.com.

He offered his assurances that the new buildings and facilities would be in line with international standards. He said the commission would also visit other military weapon storage facilities to make sure that they were in good condition.

The Navy'€™s ammunition depot exploded yesterday, claiming one life and severely injuring 86 other people. According to an initial inquiry, the blast was caused by a short circuit that affected ammunition. (dic)
