Prior to the meeting, Suryadharma handed over building materials for the construction of houses of worship of Catholic, Protestant, Muslim and Hindu groups that had been damaged by massive flooding in mid January.
'It's our obligation to maintain and preserve harmonious inter-religious relations,' he said as quoted by antara news portal on Tuesday.
He expected that the meeting would support the church to implement programs that would in turn support and preserve the country's national motto of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, (Unity in Diversity).
Governor Sinyo acknowledged that GMIM had contributed to maintaining religious harmony and curbing social problems. (yln)
