female spectator fell into a trance and 14 others fainted during a performance by dangdut king Rhoma Irama during a National Awakening Party (PKB) campaign event held in Banyuwangi, East Java on Wednesday.

Hasan Irfan, a nurse from the Nadhlatul Ulama Hospital present at the event, said he rushed to help a woman who seemed to have fallen into a trance during the performance.

'€œShe kept shouting a name,'€ Hasan said as quoted by tempo.co.

He said the woman was treated by female nurses before she apparently recovered and was allowed to go home.

Additionally, the nurses attended to 14 women in the crowd who fainted.  Hasan said these women had passed out from lack of oxygen and hunger.

Rhoma Irama is regarded as a legendary dangdut singer with presumably millions of diehard fans across the country. Given his mass appeal, PKB chairman Muhaimin Iskandar has considered naming him the party'€™s presidential hopeful despite public criticism over the singer's incompetence.

PKB is among Indonesia's least popular parties. In the 2009 general election it won 5 percent of votes, barely enough to pass the threshold for representation in the legislature.(dic)
