he Semarang Corruption Court sentenced on Thursday former JenderalSoedirman State University (Unsoed) rector Edy Yuwono to two years and sixmonths in prison, ordered him to pay restitutionof Rp 133.7 million in state losses and a Rp 50 million fine for graftcommitted with colleagues.
Should the defendant fail to pay the fine, he will serve an additional two months in prison.
Edy's colleagues -- former deputy rector Budi Rustomo and former head of the university's printing house Winarto Hadi -- were handed the same sentence. Budi and Winarto were also ordered to pay restitution of Rp 81.3 million and Rp 135.2 million in state losses, respectively.
The sentences were lighter that the prosecutors' demand of four years in prison and Rp 200 million in fines.
The three defendants intend to appeal their convictions.
The three were deemed guilty of embezzling Rp 5.8 billion in corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds belonging to state-owned PT Aneka Tambang (Antam). The graft case involved Rp 2.1 billion in state losses.(dic)
