JAKARTA: When it comes to eating, actress and television host Olga Lydia says that kecap manis is a must.
'I'm used to adding a bit of kecap manis when eating sayur lodeh, sambal krecek or spicy sambal,' Olga said referring to vegetables in coconut milk, fried buffalo skin and hot sauce, respectively.
While it might strike local readers as odd, Olga says she also pours the sweet soy sauce on when eating rendang (meat simmered in coconut milk) or balado (meat cooked in chili sauce) at Padang restaurants.
Born of Javanese parents ' her father is from Semarang, Central Java, and mother from Jombang, East Java ' Olga said that her 'addiction' to sweet soy sauce wasn't a strange, considering the Javanese propensity for anything sweet.
'When I was in high school, I kept a package of kecap manis in my bag,' she said as reported by kompas.com, adding that now she kept the must-have condiment in her car.
