Your letters: Comparing Jokowi to Obama

I

think US President Barack Obama has been successful in bringing peace to the world. If there are American people dissatisfied with him, they are mostly the Republican and rich, who do not want to pay higher taxes or lose their business interests in sectors including health care; oil and gas; finance; and industry.

Obama wants to bring prosperity for everybody. The rich do not want to lose their businesses.

Obama brought peace to Third-World and Muslim countries. He withdrew the US from Iraq, Afghanistan (soon) and did not send troops to Syria or Russia over Crimea: Not to mention his best effort to solve the lingering problem of Palestine-Israel.

Obama has achieved so much, I cannot possibly mention everything since the list would be very long.

Comparing Jakarta Governor Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo to Obama, the similarity in age first comes to mind and Obama'€™s experience as a senator alongside Jokowi'€™s background as a mayor and governor.

Obama'€™s party is only dominate in the Senate and this makes it difficult for Obama to delivering his programs,  however, Jokowi'€™s party is predicted to be dominant in the House of Representatives meaning he will not face major opposition to his programs.

I do not understand, however, what Jokowi has achieved in his short term as governor of Jakarta. He kick started a lot of action, to solve problems such as flooding, traffic, slums, corrupt bureaucrats, health care and school fees. Some of these are still ongoing, but it will be easier for him to finish his program if he is elected as RI One.

Indonesia must embark on an oil self-sufficiency program. Pertamina must concentrate on domestic and foreign exploration and build more refineries. All past unfair agreements should be reviewed.

Our people are poor because of mismanagement, corruption and selfish high officials. This should be overhauled in a big way. Not a difficult deed for Jokowi, as I believe the people will support him.

As long as Jokowi practices justice and prosperity for all, I believe there will be no terrorism. Terrorist attacks do not come from the ordinary people but perpetrators are from certain groups that control arms.

Should Jokowi be elected he must appoint strong generals as coordinating political, legal and security affairs minister as well as defense minister.
