The designer said he had named his new bridal line collection Emma the Silent Princess after his older sister, the late Emma Sadiani Gunawan.

'€œShe was the only princess I knew. I wanted to make something for her,'€ Ivan said prior to his show, held as part of the Bridal Week Bazaar 2014 at the Ritz-Carlton Jakarta in Pacific Place in Jakarta.

Under the LOVE bridal line, Ivan, who is also a popular television host, has accentuated brides'€™ true beauty by drawing less dramatic French lace gowns within mermaid, A-line, ball-gown and sheath dress silhouettes. Yet, he has kept their special look with ribbons or belts.

Within 40 days, Ivan worked on each look of the Emma the Silent Princess collection and was helped by 20 dressmakers.

'€œSo, it was one dressmaker for one piece,'€ said Ivan, who finished off the 20 dresses in between his tight shooting schedule for several TV shows, starting work at 7:00 a.m. on a daily basis.

Twelve gowns from the overall collection were straight to the point with simple embellishment '€” perfect choices for those who are into outdoor, modest wedding ceremonies or a pre-wedding photo session. Meanwhile, the eight others were volume gowns for brides who are forever in love with classic cuts.

As an opener, a model walked on to the runway wearing a sleeveless white gown with full-body embroidery and a tail plus a feather head-piece.

The second was an elegant short-sleeved sheer lavender gown, which exposed the wearer'€™s beautiful legs.

A white strapless dress with a choker accessory was the choice for a dynamic and simple wedding.

Another low-cut lavender dress and floral ornaments was also perfect for any evening event.

A modest peach dress with long sleeves and subtle embroidery looked nice-and-easy yet elegant.

For a bolder look, Ivan offered a high-waist dress, which was black on top with an attention-stealing floral motive on the bottom part.

The designer also revealed a combination of black and silky lavender as well as black and silky green tosca dresses.

For the list of volume gowns, Ivan featured, among others, a classic white strapless gown with hidden pockets; a sleeveless green lace gown with exposed floral embroidery; an informal short-sleeved tail dress with black belt; and two classic-cut long-sleeved white gowns '€” one with a black belt, one with white ribbon.

Ivan said that he found ribbons and belts suitable for his bridal designs as they made a perfect overall look for the wearer.

'€œI'€™ve learned that most Indonesian women nowadays are more aware of keeping their bodies in shape. I think the ribbons and belts are just the perfect way to bring out the waistline.'€

Ivan has used fabrics such as French lace, duchess, organdy, tulle and Thai silk, which he imported from the US and Thailand, in the collection. In the color palette, the designer has used lavender, peach, mint blue, off-white, yellow and black.

Ivan applies a bustier in the gown'€™s construction complemented by tulle fabrics, which makes the dresses comfortable to wear. He has also applied meticulous work in embroidery, sequins and side frills, which have been assembled by hand.

Of the simple drawings, Ivan said he loved to create bridal dresses that were easy to wear for all women. The simple design was many people'€™s favorite and thus easy to sell, said Ivan.

'€œI like the light gown idea because wedding parties nowadays are often held on the beach or in a chapel '€” I think simple and light dresses are perfect.'€
