Being a good Muslim is analogous to exemplary civic conduct, but one should not conflate Islam with the state, several academics asserted in a book launch on Tuesday at the Muhammadiyah Center of Study in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Your comments:

Being religious is not automatically synonymous with being a good citizen. People who are not religious can also be good citizens.

A good citizen starts with having a good and open heart. Not with daily prayers and reading any
holy book.

Azwar Bareta

A Muslim Student'€™s Agenda, which encourages the idea of being religious, is synonymous with being a good citizen.

Nirvana

There are ways too many hypocrites using religion to cover a facade of deception here and around the world.

What young local people need to learn is basic ethics in school, learn to respect one another, respect differences, use critical thinking in regard to religion and school subjects and take responsibility for one'€™s actions.

Critical thinking is always useful and should not be regarded as blasphemous. Nonetheless, politics and religion should always be separate. Religion is a private matter between an individual and God.
