ANDA ACEH: A joint military and police team has arrested four Thai fishing boats with a combined crew of 60 for illegally operating in Meulaboh waters, West Aceh.
'They were arrested while fishing around 8 miles from Meulaboh city. The crew members are being detained at the city police station for processing,' West Aceh Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Faisal Rivai said on Monday.
Faisal said Sunday's arrests were made following a tip-off from local fishermen who saw six foreign boats.
'We then send a patrol boat to chase the Thai boats. Two of the six boats escaped,' he said.
He said Thai boats were using trawls, which are banned in Indonesia.
