panel of Muara Tebo District Court judges has sentenced a man identified asSuherman bin Samsudin to 17 years in prison after he was found guilty ofmurdering a student identified as Dahrima Yunita in October last year.
'The ruling is in line with the indictment that the defendant was guilty of violating the Criminal Code by committing premeditated murder,' presiding judge Kamijon said on Wednesday.
The trial went smoothly until members of the victim's family attempted to attack the defendant shortly after the verdict was read. An eye witness, identified as Doni praised the police's quick response in protecting the defendant from the angry mob.
'Thank God they were able to get to him first before the angry mob did,' he said.(dic)
