President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono received letters of credence from seven new ambassadors in a ceremony at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon.

Of the seven new envoys, six are based in Jakarta, namely Muhammad Lawal Sulaiman of Nigeria, Francisco Jose Viqueira Niel of Spain, Michal Slivovic of Slovakia, Attiya Mahmood of Pakistan, Sergey
Michev of Bulgaria and Rodrigo Guillermo Riofrio Machucha of Ecuador.

Non-resident envoy Alpha Diallo of Guinea is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

'€œAs we know, our relations are good,'€ said Yudhoyono during a welcoming meeting with the envoys after the ceremony. '€œThere are many opportunities to boost cooperation in the years to come.'€

Yudhoyono, who was accompanied by a number of officials, including Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa and State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, also told the envoys that Indonesia had held its legislative election peacefully and democratically, saying that such an improvement in democracy could also boost economic development.

Teuku Faizasyah, presidential spokesman for foreign affairs, said after the ceremony that there were indeed opportunities to boost economic cooperation.

'€œFor example, many Indonesian investors have gone to Nigeria, such as Indorama,'€ Teuku added. '€œThe President also underlined how to use such opportunities to build a greater cooperation not only
with Indonesia but also with ASEAN.'€

As for the legislative election and the upcoming presidential election, which Yudhoyono predicted would also run smoothly, Teuku said '€œa good economy and good democracy are fundamental [factors] for netting investors during the next presidency'€.
