The refusal by Azwar, 27 â a suspected pedophile implicated in the molestation of a student at Jakarta International School (JIS) who committed suicide while in police custody on Saturday â to speak to the police about his crimes has angered his fellow suspects
he refusal by Azwar, 27 ' a suspected pedophile implicated in the molestation of a student at Jakarta International School (JIS) who committed suicide while in police custody on Saturday ' to speak to the police about his crimes has angered his fellow suspects.
Azwar is one of six cleaners at the school who were named suspects for allegedly molesting a six-year-old kindergarten pupil.
'Azwar insisted on staying silent even though his friends admitted their misdeeds,' said Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Rikwanto at his office on Sunday, as quoted by tempo.com.
He said five other suspects were present while Azwar underwent questioning on Saturday.
As he refused to talk, the investigators gave Azwar a piece of paper and told him to write down what he had done to the victim. Azwar cried before putting pen to paper.
Rikwanto further explained that after writing several sentences, at around 11:55 a.m., Azwar asked to go to the toilet but after five minutes had not returned.
Police officers then broke down the toilet door and found Azwar lying on the floor with a bottle of Porstex cleaning fluid near him.
'It is suspected that he committed suicide by drinking the cleaning liquid because of what he had done,' said Rikwanto.
Officers rushed Azwar to the police's health and medical unit before transferring him to Kramat Jati Police Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 6 p.m. (idb/ebf)
