Australian arrested for drug possession

T

he Surabaya Police say they arrested an Australian, Andrew Roger, 52, for the possession of different drugs at his home on Jl. Petemon Timur in Surabaya, East Java.

Surabaya Police chief Sr. Comr. Setija Junianta said Roger had been arrested at around 9 p.m. on May 7 for possessing 800 grams of marijuana, two packages of crystal methamphetamine weighing 2.15 grams, two ecstasy pills and 0.57 grams of kethamine. He has also been charged with distributing the drugs.

'€œAfter receiving information from local residents saying that his café was often used for drug parties, the police raided the location. Police arrested Roger while he was rolling a marijuana joint with two friends, Julia Emi Wulandari and Sisca Indriyani,'€ Setija said on Monday.

He said the police were questioning Julia and Sisca as witnesses, while Roger had been detained at the Surabaya Police precinct.

Setija added that the police were exploring other avenues to track down those responsible for supplying the drugs to the suspect.

'€œHe [Roger] said only one person had supplied him with drugs. He also said he used the drugs for private consumption, but we don'€™t believe that,'€ he said.

Roger has been charged under Law No. 35/2009 on narcotics, Law No. 5/1997 on psychotropics and Law No. 36/2009 on health.

Roger is believed to be a longtime drug user. '€œSince previously living in Australia, he has regularly used both marijuana and crystal methamphetamine,'€ Setija said. (ebf)
