MY GADGET: Nadine Chandrawinata: Looking to play underwater

Kapanlagi.com

Nadine Chandrawinata'€™s life is inseparable from the ocean. Having been featured on many magazine covers and walked so many runways, the winner of the 2005 Putri Indonesia beauty pageant has also expanded her modeling career underwater.

In her book, Nadine: Labor of Love, she worked with photographer Windiarto Tjandra, capturing the beauty of maritime Indonesia through pictures that featured her as a underwater model in stylish outfits.

The German-born Nadine developed an interest in diving in 2006 and is now a certified diver-rescuer. She produced a movie, The Mirror Never Lies, about life among the sea nomads of Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi, and has been promoting diving on television.

'€œI just came back after diving in the Maldives for 10 days. I can tell you that Indonesia is still the winner. The corals here are more beautiful, more colorful,'€ said Nadine.

Canon PowerShot D30

This is my new toy. I like traveling. I travel a lot and I always take my digital camera with me. What I like about the D30 is that it can also be used underwater.

This one needs no housing, and I can use it down to 25 meters. I like taking macro underwater pictures and I think the D30'€™s focus for the macro is so good. I sometimes use a small strobe light to get better images.

Before the D30, I used to take underwater pictures with a Canon G12, and sometimes a Canon 5D. The images were also very good, but I need to bring more equipment for the camera, such as the camera housing.

I'€™ve tried other brands for taking underwater pictures, too, but I like the Canon better.

Social media applications

From my camera, I transfer the photos through my MacBook Air before synchronizing photos to my iPhone 5s. I edit the photos using some editing applications and upload them to Instagram and sometimes Twitter.

For more serious things, I don'€™t use editing applications on my phone. I ask my friend to edit my underwater pictures instead.

Suunto D9

I have used a Suunto for a long time. The Suunto D9 is my third dive computer. Mine is black and looks masculine and strong. As a diver, a dive computer is very important to help me to dive safely. It will give you a warning if you ascend too fast, and shows you the safe flight time after multiple dives.

The wristwatch-like dive computer also keeps my dive history, such as the depth, the temperature and the dive time.
