utheran Church delegates from around the globe will take part in the World Lutheran Church congress, held at the Batak Christian Protestant Church (HKBP) in Medan, North Sumatra, from June 11-18.

The annual meeting carries the theme Like a Tree Planted by Streams of Water.

Head of the organizing committee for the Lutheran World Federation'€™s 2014 Council Meeting, Mori Sihombing, said the meeting in Medan this year would be attended by delegates from 79 countries.

He added the delegates would rally for church participation to curb the impact of climate change as well as to discuss humanitarian issues and share knowledge.

'€œEvery challenge will be discussed in the meeting. The global challenges cannot be confronted by just a single church, but together,'€ said Mori at the HKBP Church in Medan.

He said that since the event was established in 1947 by the Lutheran World Federation, this is the first year that the task of hosting it has been entrusted to Indonesia.

The Lutheran World Federation National Committee (KN LWF) of Indonesia has a membership of 12 churches.

Sihombing said a new member church from Nias, Sumatra, would be inaugurated during the meeting, thus bringing the committee'€™s membership to 13 churches.

North Sumatra Governor Gatot Pujo Nugroho warmly welcomed the World Lutheran Church meeting in Medan. He said the church activities would have beneficial effects for many parties, including the government, entrepreneurs and communities.

Gatot said that his administration also expected delegates from the international community to promote tourism in the province in their respective countries.
