omen's singles shuttlers from Malaysia and Japan beat their two respective Indonesianrivals in the first qualification rounds during the BCA Indonesia Open Metlife BWFWorld Super Series Premier 2014 at the Bung Karno Indoor Stadium in Senayan,Central Jakarta, onTuesday.

Malaysian player Li Lian Yang beat Indonesian Ana Rovita 21-16 and 21-15, whileJapanese player Akane Yamaguchi beat Indonesia'€™s Yeni Asmarani 21-13 and 21-15.

Akane took the lead in the opening minutes of the first and second legs againstAna, who was forced to follow Akane's offensive combination of net play andforehand smash.

During the second leg, Yeni chased Akane with her defensive style, while tryingto provoke mistakes from her rival. However, Akane put a stop to Yeni'sprogress as they reached the final minutes of the game.

As many as 28 countries are currently taking part in the tournament, which runsfrom June 17 toJune 22. The participants are competing to win total prizes ofUS$750,000 in the sports extravaganza jointly sponsored by Bank Central Asia(BCA) and the Djarum Foundation.

China, Malaysia, Denmark, Australia and Indonesia are among the countries thatsent players to the event, which was honored by the Badminton World Federationas the best badminton tournament in the world in both 2012 and 2013. (gda)
