amarinda, Balikpapan and Kutai Kartanegara experienced electricity blackouts due to the severing of an overhead cable at the Mahakam River, an official said on Tuesday.
'The cable from the Tengkawang diesel-fuelled power plant, which is part of Mahakam interconnection system, was severed by a pontoon boat,' state-owned electricity company PT PLN Samarinda manager Achmad Syaifuddin said as quoted by Antara.
Syaifuddin revealed that the cable, which had a capacity of 150 kilovolts, supplied electricity to the three cities in the Mahakam interconnection system.
'Two lines of the cable were damaged after being hit by the pontoon boat. We are currently fixing it,' he said.
