Residents cast their ballots amid haze on Wednesday in several parts of Riau, which is currently encircled by 105 hotspots.
Data division head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Agus Wibowo, said that 87 of the hotspots were found in Rokan Hilir
regency, while the remainder were distributed throughout other regions in the province.
'Nine spots are in Dumain, seven in Bengkalis and two in Rokan Hulu,' he said, as quoted by viva.co.id.
As haze enveloped the region, visibility was most limited in Rengat, Indragiri Hulu regency, at 700 meters. In Dumai, the air was still clear for a radius of 3 kilometers.
