ublicly listed information and technology company PT Multipolar Technology, an affiliate of the Lippo Group, announced on Friday the signing of a joint venture agreement with Japanese conglomerate Mitsui & Co. Ltd. and its subsidiary Mitsui Knowledge Industry Co. Ltd. to build and operate a data center in Indonesia.
Under the agreement, Mitsui and its subsidiary will invest Rp 30 billion (US$2.6 million) and Rp 80 billion in GTN, representing 10 percent and 25 percent stakes, respectively, in PT Graha Teknologi Nusantara (GTN) to operate the data center business.
GTN, a subsidiary of Multipolar, is set to build the data center, dubbed data center tier-4, at a location 30-kilometers (km) from Jakarta and 80 km from Bandung, West Java, and to start operating the data center in the second half of next year.
'Prospects for the data center business in the country are bright, especially if the data centers have high standard in supporting foreign cloud providers and content users,' said Multipolar Technology president director Wahyudi Chandra.
