T

he Idul Fitri holiday is just around the corner and this weekend will be the right time for Indonesian Muslims to spend their holiday bonuses on final preparations for their celebrations. And business vendors are clearly aware of this.

Pop-up markets and other shopping events this weekend will aim to capture the enthusiasm and capitalize on it.

Adadiskon.com, a website that provides information on sale events, listed at least 10 Greater Jakarta shopping malls hosting midnight sale events on Saturday and Sunday offering discounts of up to 80 percent, including at Plaza Semanggi, Kuningan City, Gandaria City and Senayan City.

US-based Internet giant Yahoo! Indonesia also does not want to miss the moment by hosting a pop-up market, which will be an event in which dozens of fashion and beauty tenants can meet with thousands of potential buyers.

Yahoo! Indonesia executive producer Jatu Anggraeni said that this year would be the first time for the company to hold such an event.

'€œWe annually create a microsite dedicated to Ramadhan programs on our website. This year we added a new tab, Shoptacular, which contains e-commerce vendors. Based on popular demand, we decided to go offline and create a Shoptacular on-the-ground event,'€ she said when contacted Friday.

The two-day event, which will kick off today at Ciputra Artpreneur in the Ciputra World shopping mall in South Jakarta, will see 40 fashion and beauty tenants from across the city gather and offer their products at special prices.

'€œWe invite not only big brands but also small-time online shops to help local designers and producers promote their products to the customers,'€ she said.

Jatu guaranteed that the event would be a shopping haven for Jakartans.

'€œWe have selected the tenants so there won'€™t be tenants offering similar products. The products offered will vary from women'€™s to men'€™s fashion items to accessories. Several fashion bloggers and celebrities will also join us in our flea market or garage sale section,'€ she pointed out, adding that the organizer will also hand out millions of rupiah in door prizes for lucky visitors.

Whulandary Herman, who was crowned winner of the Puteri Indonesia 2013 beauty pageant, is among celebrities who will offer her fashion collection at special prices during the event.

'€œMany people ask me on my Instagram '€˜what are you wearing?'€™ '€˜where did you buy those?'€™'€ and so on, so I want to participate in the event to answer my followers. Besides, I have a lot of dresses, particularly those I wore for TV shows, that I won'€™t wear again,'€ she said.

Whulandari was upbeat that she would sell all of her items.

'€œMany of my followers have expressed their interests. I am excited,'€ she added.

On the same weekend, singer Andien, together with a few other celebrities, is also hosting a garage sale, called Koperku (my luggage) Garage Sale, offering her branded collections at affordable prices. The garage sale will be held in Lamandau, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.

'€œI must have been crazy. Kate Spade, Bally, Gucci and Dior for Rp 200,000 [US$17.22]. Come to Koperku Garage Sale this weekend!'€ she said on her Twitter account, adding that some of the sales will be donated for charity.

Idul Fitri is expected to fall on July 28 and 29, pending the official announcement by the government.
