anisius School alumni, grouped under the Canisius College Community for Jokowi and Kalla (CC4JKWJK), and members of Anak Menteng Bersatu (United Menteng Children) have expressed gratitude for a safe and peaceful presidential election on July 9, during a peaceful rally at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle on Tuesday.
'We are now waiting for an official announcement from the General Elections Commission (KPU) on who will become our leader and the Indonesian president for the period of 2014-2019,' CC4JKWJK and Anak Menteng Bersatu said in a release made available to The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.
They said they were convinced and fully believed that the transfer of power would run peacefully, such as in 2004 and 2009.
'We, Menteng residents, have been living in a safe and peaceful situation. Similarly, Kanisius School has been in a relatively safe condition in providing education and learning to its students,' the two communities said.
They went on to say that voting in the presidential election in the Menteng neighborhood ran safely and peacefully. However, it was probable that current electoral developments might disrupt activities of Menteng residents.
'Currently, all activities and attention related to the presidential election are focused on the KPU headquarters, which is located in Menteng. At the same time, the dynamics have continued to increase as people wait for the KPU's official announcement, which is scheduled for July 22,' they said.
Responding to the situation, CC4JKWJK and Anak Menteng Bersatu are calling on all parties to maintain the peace in Menteng and urge the presidential candidates to be sportive and act with integrity in responding to the election results announced by the KPU.
'We support anyone who becomes our leader and the next Indonesian president. We want the peace that has been achieved to continue in a spirit of unity so that Indonesia can continue development better,' said CC4JKWJK and Anak Menteng Bersatu. (fss/ebf)
