Jokowi conducts Idul Fitri prayers, open house at City Hall

P

resident-elect and Jakarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo spent the first day of Idul Fitri in Jakarta, where he held Idul Fitri prayers and an open house at City Hall on Monday.

Jokowi, accompanied by his wife Iriana Widodo and his three children, conducted the prayers with heads of Jakarta administration working units, leaders of the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) and nearby communities.

The prayers were held on the City Hall terrace, which can accommodate up to 700 people.

After the prayers, the governor and administration'€™s officials held a halal bi halal (post-Ramadhan gathering) at the Balairung, City Hall.

On the sidelines of the halal bi halal, Jokowi told reporters that the Idul Fitri gathering would be the last time he held one as Jakarta governor because he planned to resign after Idul Fitri.

Jokowi also said that he wanted everyone to reconcile with those who had differences of opinion because of the presidential election, including relatives and neighbors.

"Indonesia should be united again as a huge nation. We are all brothers and sisters," he said.

Several officials of the Jakarta administration and entrepreneur Setiawan Djodi were seen at the open house.

Afterward, Jokowi, who ran for the presidency on the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) ticket, is scheduled to attend an open house held by Megawati Soekarnoputri, chairwoman of the party, at her residence on Jl. Kebagusan in South Jakarta.

Several PDI-P officials, along with Jokowi's campaign team members and other state officials, are also scheduled to attend Megawati's open house.

During the first day of Idul Fitri last year, Jokowi and his wife traveled around the capital city to conduct blusukan (impromptu visits) in several areas. (gda)
