The country's footwear exports account for 3 percent of global market demand and the figure is expected to continue rising.
"Besides the great amount of footwear exports across the globe, this industry has experienced an annual export surplus of about US$2 billion in the past five years," the Industry Ministry's small and medium enterprises director general, Euis Saedah, said in Jakarta on Tuesday on the sidelines of an exhibition organized by the Indonesian Footwear Industry Development Center (BPIPI) as quoted by kontan.co.id.
According to Industry Ministry data, Indonesian footwear exports were valued at $3.86 billion in 2013, up by 7.22 percent compared to the previous year.
The exhibition, which is being held in the ministry's Exhibition Plaza, runs from Aug. 12 to 15.
Euis said that the exhibition was aimed at strengthening Indonesia's position in the footwear industry ahead of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015. (nfo)
