A

boat carrying tourists is reported to have sunk off Sangeang Island, Bima regency, West Nusa Tenggara on Sunday. Of the 27 passengers and crew on board 17 are reported to be missing.

'€œTen passengers have been rescued while the rest are still missing,'€ Mataram Search and Rescue operational head Lalu Wahyu Efendi was quoted by Antara news agency as saying.

Efendi said the boat was transporting tourists from Labuhan Lombok, East Lombok regency to Komodo Island, in East Nusa Tenggara province.

He said while passing through waters near Sangeang Island the boat was believed to have hit a reef and sunk.

Bima Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Beny Basen told The Jakarta Post on Sunday that 10 foreign tourists had been rescued and evacuated, while among the missing were 10 foreign and five local tourists .
