Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil says the Husein Sastranegara International Airport terminal expansion project is set to begin in September
Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil says the Husein Sastranegara International Airport terminal expansion project is set to begin in September.
"The groundbreaking of the terminal expansion project will be conducted in September. We have appointed the consultant and contractors," Ridwan said in Bandung on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
The expansion will triple the airport's annual capacity to 3 million passengers.
He said the terminal would have an interesting design and he had been appointed as one of the advisers in the architectural department.
"The architectural design is modern and futuristic. We are hoping that the new face of the airport will better represent Bandung," said Ridwan, who is a noted architect.
Apart from the passenger terminal, the project will include a parking lot expansion as well as pick-up and drop-off area management.
According to Central Statistics Agency (BPS) data, the number of foreign tourist arrival via the airport rose by 15.84 percent in June to 16,889 people from 14,588 people in the previous month. (nfo/nvn)
