Rupiah falls slightly to 11,679 per dollar in morning trade

The rupiah traded among banks in Jakarta on Thursday morning depreciated by 10 basis points to Rp 11,679 per US dollar.

Monex Investindo Futures analyst Zulfirman Basir said that the rising of US durable goods order has proven that the US economy has improved.

"As the US economy continues to improve, the Federal Reserve Bank is going to end its qualitative easing by the end of 2014," Zulfirman said in Jakarta on Thursday, as quoted by Antara news agency.

He also said that as the market expected to see the US central bank accelerate its plan to increase the Fed rate, currencies in emerging markets including the rupiah tended to slow down.

Market players were hoping the government would prepare a new policy to help stabilize the domestic finance market.

Zulfirman, however, said that the appreciation of the rupiah was still limited since the market players were waiting for the results of a meeting between Russian and Ukrainian presidents, as well as the ceasefire in Gaza. (nfo)
