ozens of people staged a peaceful rally Tuesday in front of the Australian embassy on Jl. HR Rasuna Said in Kuningan, South Jakarta, to observe the 10th anniversary of the Australian embassy bombing that claimed the lives of nine Indonesians and severely injured dozens of others.

'€œThis is our effort, as victims of the [actions] of radical groups, to make peace reign on this country,'€ Sucipto Wibowo, rally coordinator, said on Tuesday as quoted by Antara news agency.

Approximately 50 people participated at the rally, which was also aimed at encouraging more people to support peace and combat terrorism in the country. During the rally, participants gave flowers and leaflets to passersby regarding the danger of radicalization movements and the importance of upholding tolerance.

The rally was also supported by several NGOs like the Indonesia Peace Alliance and the Global Center of Well Being.

A pickup truck loaded with explosives was set off in the front of the Australian embassy on Sept. 9, 2004. According to the Indonesian authorities, nine people were killed and dozens of others were injured.

Later on, the police investigation revealed that the bombing was a suicide mission carried out by a man identified as Hery Golun, part of a terrorist group led by the late Dr. Azhari and Noordin M Top. (alz/dic)
