nited Development Party (PPP) deputy chairman Suharso Monoarfa has said that his party will send representatives to the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) national leadership meeting that is slated to be held in Semarang, Central Java, from September 19-21.
'We have already accepted an invitation from the PDI-P. God willing we will go,' he said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
He said newly elected chairman Emron Pangkapi had planned to go to the meeting along with all the parties that supported Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and Jusuf Kalla in the presidential election; the National Awakening Party (PKB), the National Democratic (NasDem) Party, the People's Conscious Party (Hanura) and the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI).
However, there was no explanation as to whether attending the PDI-P meeting would mark a shift in the PPP's political support, from the current Red-and-White Coalition under the Gerindra Party's leadership to the coalition that supports the upcoming administration of Jokowi and Kalla.
Suharso previously appeared at the PKB's national congress in Surabaya, East Java and thus sparked speculation that the PPP was gearing up to leave the Red-and-White Coalition.
Regarding shifts in political support, PPP official Zarkasih Nur has previously said that it was possible for the PPP to change its support. However, the decision will be made during the party's national meeting, which is slated to be organized from September 23 to 24.
An internal rift within the PPP led to the ouster of chairman Suryadharma Ali. Suryadharma was dismissed by the third national leaders' meeting after he was named a suspect in a graft case involving the organization of the haj pilgrimage during his tenure as religious affairs minister.(alz/dic)
