he bass guitar, given as a gift by heavy metal bandMetallica to president-elect Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo, has been put on display bythe Corruption Eradication (KPK) at its headquarters.
'This once belonged to Jokowi. It is being put on display, starting today,' KPK spokesman Priharsa Nugraha said Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
The KPK has picked a spot in its headquarters that will allow the bass to be visible to visitors entering the building from all angles.
Jokowi reported and handed the guitar over to the KPK in May last year to avoid violating the Corruption Law.
Metallica's bass player, Robert Trujillo, gave the Ibanez bass guitar to the Jakarta governor via promoter Jonathan Liu, who plans to hold a Metallica concert in Jakarta last year.
Trujillo hand wrote a message on the guitar, reading: 'Giving back! To Jokowi. Keep playing that cool funky bass.'
Jokowi denied the guitar was a gratuity for issuing a permit for the concert.
After a concert in 1991, which ended in rioting, Metallica played Jakarta in August last year to great acclaim.
