ndonesia has climbed into second place in the medal standings at the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand, as the national contingent continues to deliver podium finishes across various sports.

Since the 33rd edition of Southeast Asia’s biggest multi-sport event began on Dec. 9, Indonesia has collected 35 gold medals, 50 silvers and 42 bronzes as of Sunday noon, according to the tally published on the competition’s website.

The surge came after Indonesia secured 11 golds on Saturday, the fifth day of competition, through victories in tennis, shooting, sports climbing, weightlifting, martial arts and athletics. The country won three more golds on Sunday, including in badminton men’s singles.

The results leave Indonesia trailing only runaway leader Thailand, who have earned 104 gold medals, 66 silvers and 38 bronzes. Vietnam, Indonesia’s closest challenger in the race for second place, slipped to third with 31 golds, 30 silvers and 57 bronzes.

Beyond the medal tally, the Indonesian women’s basketball team recorded a landmark victory over regional powerhouse Vietnam, cruising to an emphatic 81-38 win on Saturday. The result put Indonesia at the top of Group A with two points. Indonesia was to face host nation Thailand in its next Group A match on Sunday, with a win set to secure a place in the semifinals.

Not all results were positive, however, as the men’s under 22 soccer team endured a disappointing campaign after failing to defend the gold medal it won in the previous SEA Games in Cambodia two years ago.
