Issue of the day: Jakarta cars to be banned from Bogor

S

strong>Sept. 17, Online

The Bogor administration will issue a regulation banning cars with '€œB'€ (Jakarta) license-plate numbers from entering Bogor, West Java, on weekends. Bogor Deputy Mayor Usmar Hariman said that the administration would make this regulation in a bid to decrease the volume of traffic and resulting congestion that usually happened in Bogor at weekends.

Your comments:

They are only killing their own economies.

All the money will now stay in Jakarta on weekends.

How about just banning the cars with two or fewer people in them, no matter where they'€™re from.

This current idea is a disaster in the making for the Bogor businesses and hospitality business.

Is common sense utterly destroyed when donning a government uniform? So, in retaliation, no Bogor cars are allowed to come to Jakarta?

How about during flood season? Can we ban any flow of water from Bogor to Jakarta or fine them per liter as they are a major contributor to floods in Jakarta annually?

It is a pretty silly move. It should'€™ve been a market-driven kind of setup. The more cars coming, the higher fee should be paid by the driver. Don'€™t ban them altogether.

In return, ban all vehicles from Bogor entering Jakarta during the week.

I think that this is a rather immature, not so well-thought-through regulation. Bogor'€™s streets are
basically blocked with hundreds (maybe thousands?) of angkot (minivan public transportation) as this seems to be a popular way of making money for those who give out permits.

Well, I guess since this will probably be implemented, they will also have enough passengers to actually transport them. I doubt that.
