OCA focus on helping retired athletes

T

he Indonesian sports authorities may have to heed calls from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) about the need to pay attention to retired athletes.

The government has been criticized for lacking commitment when faced with the issue, which in large part is blamed for a lack of interest among youth to take up sports seriously.

On Monday, OCA president Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah reiterated the importance of career transitions for athletes.

During the 2014 International Sports Relations Foundation Forum in Seoul on Monday, he said a concern of the modern Olympic movement was assisting full-time athletes in their quest to find suitable, sports-related jobs once they decided to retire from competition.

'€œAfter you finish being a star athlete and then need to move into the workforce, this is a very important topic,'€ he was quoted by Asia Daily as saying.
