Council moves a step closer to approving Jokowi'€™s resignation

C

ouncil speaker Prasetio Edi Marsudi said the City Council had approved president-elect and current Jakarta Governor Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo'€™s resignation.

Prasetio, a legislator from the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), said on Tuesday that a Council leadership meeting, which was attended by most faction leaders, had decided to issue the approval during a plenary session on Thursday.

'€œWe will read out the conclusion of today'€™s meeting during a plenary session on Oct. 2. Today'€™s meeting was attended by [leaders of] the PDI-P, the Democratic Party, PAN [National Mandate Party], PKS [Prosperous Justice Party], Hanura, Nasdem and the PKB [National Awakening Party]. The [leaders of] the PPP [United Development Party], Gerindra and Golkar did not attend the meeting,'€ Prasetio said.

He was optimistic that the resignation would be approved by the plenary meeting members.

'€œToday'€™s meeting reached quorum, so there should be no problem approving the resignation during the next plenary session,'€ he said.

Jokowi declined to comment, saying that the resignation had yet to be finalized.

'€œWe still have to submit it to the President via the home minister,'€ he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama, who is set to become governor, said he would waste no time expediting bureaucratic reform programs within the city administration.

'€œI will remove some [agency heads] once I assume the governor post,'€ he said, declining to elaborate further. (++++)
