AKARTA: Google says it's launching its Google Public Alerts and Crisis Map for Indonesia to fight calamities that afflict people living in the so-called Ring of Fire.
Google's head of partnerships for Google Crisis Response, Meryl Stone, said that the service would initially alert users to earthquakes and tsunamis.
'The Crisis Response started in the mid-2000s as a volunteer project after seeing a real need for real-time mapping,' Stone said.
Stone said Google worked with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) for data on emerging earthquake or tsunami threats that would appear on Google Search and Google Maps for users.
