alaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak congratulated newly inaugurated President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla following their swearing-in ceremony at a plenary meeting of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) on Monday.
'I wish the best of luck to President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla to run the new Indonesian administration,' he said on Monday as quoted by Antara news agency after attending the inauguration in Jakarta.
PM Razak said Indonesia and Malaysia enjoyed close cooperation and had established partnerships in a variety of fields. He expressed the hope that the two countries would forge even stronger ties under the Jokowi-Kalla administration.
'The inauguration is a good sign. It is hoped that Malaysia and Indonesia's bilateral relations can grow stronger in the future,' he said.
The Malaysia prime minister was one of six heads of state to attend the ceremony, including Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam; Timor Leste President Taur Matan Ruak; Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O'Neill; Australia Prime Minister Tony Abbott; and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
Special envoys from several countries, including US Secretary of State John Kerry, former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, Philippines Foreign Minister Albert del Rosario, and New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully, were also present for the inauguration. (ebf)(++++)
