Sudirman and Jl. MH Thamrin amid sweltering heat to celebrate the inauguration of the country's seventh president, Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo.
Jokowi and Vice President Jusuf Kalla took an oath at the House of Representatives in Senayan, South Jakarta, at 10:15 a.m.
Indonesians of various backgrounds descended upon several major streets to greet Jokowi, who will drive by car to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta before continuing to the State Palace by horse-drawn carriage.
Various posters and banners -- some made by area companies -- with messages like 'Thank You [former president] SBY' and 'Welcome, Jokowi!' could be seen along the roads.
Teguh Riski, a 28-year-old insurance company employee, said he had been granted a break from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to join the celebration.
'This kind of people's party is unprecedented, so I want to witness it firsthand,' said Teguh, a native Jakartan.
Out-of-towners were also excited to take part in the celebration. Mahni, a farmer and businesswoman from Wonosobo, Central Java, arrived in Jakarta Monday morning bearing a mountain-shaped gift of fruits and vegetables."They are a gift for Pak Jokowi [...] wishes for prosperity and welfare," she said.
Others benefitted financially from the celebration on the streets.
Iin, a resident of Muara Angke, North Jakarta, acknowledged that he had made significant profits from selling hats.
'I've sold 50 hats already by the mid-day,' he said, grinning.
