o leaders in the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) are on the list of minister candidates rumored to be announced later on Tuesday by newly inaugurated President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
'Alhamdulillah [Thank God], none of our leaders' names have been included [on the list] so we can move more freely [in eradicating corruption],' KPK spokesman Johan Budi said as quoted by Antara news agency in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Abraham Samad, chairman of the antigraft commission, was rumored to be a leading candidate for the post of Attorney General.
Johan confirmed, however, that no KPK leaders would hold a ministerial position in the new administration.
'This is the latest information conveyed to me. I don't know whether or not Pak Jokowi still has names [of minister candidates] that the KPK has not been informed about,' he said.
Jokowi met with four KPK leaders at the antigraft commission headquarters on Sunday to hand over a list of minister candidates assembled by his transition team.
Johan said Jokowi had received a preliminary report regarding the track records of his those on his list of proposed ministers. 'One thing that I can say for sure is that the minister candidates, around 43 people, are from private entities. I won't say that [means] they are from political parties; just that they are from private parties,' he said.
On Monday, KPK deputy chairman Zulkarnain said the commission had assessed the backgrounds of Jokowi's minister candidates and assigned red and yellow marks to several of them.
He said a red mark indicated that the candidate could be named a suspect in corruption cases being handled by the KPK.
'We chose not to use a terminology of 'passed' or 'not passed', but rather, to provide input regarding what had been requested [by Jokowi]. We gave red color to high-risk candidates and yellow for those at less risk,' said Zulkarnain. (ebf)(+++)
